Biographical Info

Bo received his first ham license in 1968. He was initially a Short-wave listener. His uncle Walter (WA2LQC) who had learned Morse code during WWII and acted as his “Elmer” fostered his graduation to amateur radio. Bo “cut his teeth” on small and shortened HF antennas in those early years as he lived in Long Island on a very small parcel of land.

In 1975 Bo became a co-founder and first President of PART the Police Amateur Radio Team of Westford, Ma. PART was formed to help local police with more “eyes in the town” through the use of a 2-meter reporting system. PART probably developed the country's first amateur radio based police alert system in January of 1980 with its 2 meter amateur radio system in the Westford Police Station. This system could answer emergency calls 24 hours a day. Several thousand emergency calls have been received by this system over the years. With the advent of cell phones, calls handled through this system had dropped off significantly and the system is no longer in use today.

In 2004 Bo again became PART’s President and has been ever since. PART continues to have a close working relationship with Westford’s Police, Fire and Emergency Management organizations but it has changed its focus to being a more general ham radio club. Additional activities, such as kit building and the manning of a Special Events Station, have been added. Membership has increased and interest in a wide variety of ham radio activities is strong.

Bo is a retired physicist and has worked, during his career, for NCR, GTE, Sylvania and Osram Sylvania. Bo holds 20 US patents and has written over two dozen papers in the area of lighting physics and technology.

Bo is also an avid railfan and collects Post World War II Lionel trains.

Affiliated Club Coordinator Description
The ACC is the primary contact and resource person for each Amateur Radio club in the section, specializing in motivating, providing assistance and coordinating joint activities of radio clubs. The ACC is appointed by, and reports to, the Section Manager. Duties and qualifications of the ACC include the following:

1. Get to know the Amateur Radio clubs' members and officers person to person in his section. Learn their needs, strengths and interests and work with them to make clubs effective resources in their communities and more enjoyable for their members.

2. Encourage affiliated clubs in the section to become more active and, if the club is already healthy and effective, to apply as a Special Service Club (SSC).

3. Supply interested clubs with SSC application forms.

4. Assist clubs in completing SSC application forms.

5. Help clubs establish workable programs to use as SSCs.

6. Approve SSC application forms and pass them to the SM.

7. Work with other section leadership officials (Section Emergency Coordinator, Public Information Coordinator, Technical Coordinator, State Government Liaison, etc.) to insure that clubs are involved in the mainstream of ARRL Field Organization activities.

8. Encourage new clubs to become ARRL affiliated.

9. Ensure that annual reports (updates officers, liaison mailing addresses etc.) are forthcoming from all affiliated clubs.

10. Full ARRL membership is a requirement.

Recruitment of new hams and League members is an integral part of the job of every League appointee. Appointees should take advantage of every opportunity to recruit a new ham or member to foster growth of Field Organization programs, and our abilities to serve the public.
