Mike Leger, N1YLQ, has been involved with Emergency Communications for quite some time with a varied background. Mike got his start while still in high school under the strong mentorship of Rob Macedo (KD1CY) and Brad Anselmo (N1VUF) in the Southeast Massachusetts Coastal Amateur Radio Emergency Services and the Taunton (now Norton) NWS Skywarn team.

These experiences later lead to his volunteering with the Town of Acushnet as a RACES operator until leaving for college in Florida. While in college in Florida, Mike worked with the Volusia County ARES group and also served as the communications officer for the Daytona Beach chapter of the American Red Cross helping marshal communications resources for multiple large scale incidents including long track tornadoes, wild fires and the intense “Summer of Hurricanes” in 2004.

Since returning to Massachusetts in 2010, Mike has returned to local amateur emergency communications by serving as the regional RACES officer for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for Southeast MA since 2012. Mike has been an Amateur Radio volunteer with the Boston Marathon Communications team since 2011 and participated in the immediate first aid and communications response following the 2013 bombing at the finish line. Mike has served as ASEC since 2015.
