Amateurs made a positive impression in their support of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay (ARCMB) and the Salvation Army during last night’s limited activation New Year’s Eve at locations throughout Eastern Massachusetts.
Phil Stockton, ARCMB Director of Emergency Services expressed kudos to the amateurs via an email to Eastern Massachusetts Asssistant Section Emergency Coordinator Rob Macedo, KD1CY. Stockton wrote, “On behalf of the American Red Cross I want to thank all of you who supported the American Red Cross and Salvation Army last evening.” Stockton said he was “truly impressed with the level of committment, professionalism and support” provided by ARES members.
“They were a pleasure to have and to work with. I am also grateful for the opportunity to continue with our working relationship in times of peace or despair,” Stockton added.
In addition to the operation at the ARCMB office in Waltham and Salvation Army in Boston, hams staffed the Massachusetts State EOC in Framingham, and members of the Southeastern MA ARA operated as Net Control of an ARES Net from the club station in South Dartmouth. Additionally, a team from the Sturdy Memorial Hospital ARC stood ready if needed.
Some of the amateurs who participated at the various locations include: N1DHW, N1NHZ, KB1GLF, KD1CY, KB1EKN, KB1FQE, N1VUX, KB1HLK, KB1ISG, N1FLO, K1KEB and KE6DPL.
