Biographical Information

Bob Sparkes, KC1KVY, was first licensed in January 2019 and attained his General License in February of that year. Bob says he had thought about amateur radio for years but didn’t have the time until after retiring from teaching.

After receiving his ham license he received a call from Al, W1PLK with a radiogram from NX9K welcoming him to the hobby. Al suggested to Bob that he tune into the Eastern Mass 2 Meter Traffic Net (EM2MN) and the rest is history. After taking Peter KC1HHO’s traffic handling training course Bob began regularly handling message traffic and went on to become a net control station in 2020. In January 2021 he was appointed an Official Relay Station (ORS). Showing his willingness to serve, Bob went on to become a net control for Heavy Hitters Traffic Net (HHTN), Mass Rhode Island Phone Net (MARIPN) and First Region Net (FRN). He now also participates regularly on the Eastern Area Net (EAN).

When Joe Weiss, W1HAI, decided to resign as net manager Bob accepted the challenge as manager of HHTN where he continues to provide training to anyone interested in traffic handling.
