The Framingham Amateur Radio Association awarded its 2011 FARA Scholarship to Brendan Silkey, KB1FGU of Hubbardston, MA. The scholarship was presented at a special banquet on June 18 honoring Ed Weiss, W1NXC and Mary Weiss, KA1HGL.
Silkey, the grandson of Ed Weiss, is an honors student at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vermont. After he graduates, Silkey has aspirations to attend medical school. He also intends to upgrade to General class soon. KB1FGU attended one of the FARA license in a weekend classes in 2000 where he earned his Technican class license.
Congratulations to Brendan Silkey, and to the Framingham Amateur Radio Association for furthering the scholarship of a such a promising, young radio amateur.
