All you have to do, is transmit on the fox frequency for about two seconds (should include your callsign), and the fox will begin transmitting various messages for 30 minutes. The New England Amateur Radio Festival (NEAR-Fest) will be held Friday October 13 and Saturday, October 14 at the Deerfield, New Hampshire, Fairgrounds. Besides the flea market, we will have a full slate of forums during the day on Friday. Emergency Alert System Test Message, October 4, 2023

Anyone with a cellphone in the United States will hear an alarm go off on their device on October 4.  According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), at approximately 2:20 p.m. Eastern Time, a national test will be conducted of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts. The message on all consumer phones will read “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” Those whose device is set to Spanish will receive a message that says “ESTA ES UNA PRUEBA del Sistema Nacional de Alerta de Emergencia. BAA Half Marathon – Sunday 11/12/23 – Volunteers Still Needed

NN1C-Marty Sullaway – Amateur Radio Team Captain for the BAA Half Marathon Hi Folks, The BAA Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 12, 2023. I am serving as the Amateur Radio Team Captain for the event. The start and end of the race are in Franklin Park in Boston, and the route is a pretty gorgeous, and turns around in the Fenway. We are still looking for more amateur radio operator volunteers who will staff spotter stations along the course, and shadow key event officials. PART Portable Operation at Westford Sportsmen’s Club, September 30, 2023

Mass Rhode Island Digital Net Move

Net manager of the MARIDN Jon McCombie N1ILZ announces a slight move for this net in order to prevent interference to an ongoing CW net. The net will move down 500 Hz to 3582.5. It is a fun new net that is drawing more interest.  It currently uses the NBEMS suite of software. A Zoom chat precedes this net for informational purposes and can be used to help new folks get started. See N1ILZ@arrl.net for details.
