MEMA Region II Participates In Joint Hurricane Exercise

M.E.M.A. Region II RACES held its most successful hurricane exercise on Monday June 4th with a record number of communities participating in this annual exercise. Forty two mainland communities, 6 communities on Martha’s Vineyard, the island of Nantucket, and three County EOCs all participated. Also participating were two American Red Chapters, two hospitals on Cape Cod, MARS, and ARES.
The following communities participated:

Bristol Cty County EOC Ascushnet Attleboro Fall River Mansfield New Bedford Norton Rehobeth Somerset Swansea Taunton

Plymouth Cty Bridgewater Brockton Carver Kingston Marshfield Marion Mattapoisett Whitman

Barnstable County EOC Brewster Chatham
Dennis Falmouth Sandwhich Yarmouth

Nantucket

Dukes County County EOC Aquinnah Chilmark Gosnold Oak Bluffs Tisbury West Tisbury

Also Participating were The Region II Headquarters in Bridgewater, Cape Cod Hospital, Falmouth Hospital, Cape Cod Red Cross, Cambridge Red Cross, MARS, and Cape Cod ARES. The communities all were testing their amateur radio back up communications system to be used if a major event knocks out normal communications. Message traffic, support requests and community status reports were passed between the communities and Region II Headquarters.
