HELP OUR LOCAL TRAFFIC NETS

Attention public service event organizers–want to acknowledge the efforts of your volunteers while at the same time increase participation in our local traffic nets? Consider originating radiograms to thank those participants in your events. Our local nets need high quality traffic relay/deliveries.  You might say, “but I’m not active in traffic handling.” “I don’t know how to do it.”  “I don’t have the time.”  No problem! We have dedicated traffic handlers who will take your list of participants along with a common message and originate the traffic for injection into the traffic nets.  Contact Marcia, KW1U, at <kw1u@comcast.net> if you can help.

What a month September has been in the Eastern Massachusetts section.

We started with an extraordinary New England Division Convention. This year’s event had a major emphasis on youth and helping newcomers to amateur radio surpassing anything I have seen at any convention. The Nashua Area Radio Society (NARS) Boot Camp along with the outstanding youth-oriented focus in the exhibition hall was outstanding.

Special recognition goes to both:

(1)     the Nashua Area Radio Society for their Boot Camp Forum presentation and their youth-oriented exhibition hall activities

and

(2)     the New England Sci-Tech (NEST) for their Youth Forum presentation and along with their youth-oriented exhibition hall activities.

Attendance at the convention was great despite a near miss from Hurricane Dorian that threatened Cape Cod.  The Saturday Banquet speaker showed everyone what its like to spend six months on the ISS.  Thanks to all the wonderful people, clubs, vendors, volunteers, FEMARA and the Northeast HamXposition 2019 convention committee for making this happen.

The following weekend, our friends from the Rhode Island section and, in particular, the Blackstone Valley ARC held an outstanding public Amateur Radio Demonstration at the Bellingham MA Library. The 3-hour event was enthusiastically supported by the Library and featured very professional displays, demonstrations, at least 3 operational stations and plenty of club mentors to assist newcomers who wanted to learn about amateur radio.

K1TW attended as an invited guest and I encourage other clubs to follow their example on how to promote amateur radio to the public.  Special congratulations to Bob Beaudet, W1YRC, RI section manager and Mickey, K1WMC, from the BVARC www.w1ddd.org.

NEW AFFILIATED CLUB SERVICE OFFERED: YOUR CLUB ON THE WEB!

We understand it’s difficult to recruit and retain a webmaster for your club. In fact, some clubs’ web sites have fallen into disrepair.

That’s why we’re excited to offer this new service to ARRL affiliated clubs—a hosted page on the EMA ARRL web site. The address is of the form, https://ema.arrl.org/<Your Club Name>. The pages would be maintained by our webmaster, with input from your club officers.  What would the page look like? We’ve set up an example at https://ema.arrl.org/affiliated-club-template/ .

Questions? Contact ACC Andy Stewart, KB1OIQ, at <kb1oiq@mval.net> or ASM Phil Temples, K9HI, at <k9hi@arrl.org>.
