Eastern MA Amateurs Attend 2024 National Hurricane Conference, Orlando FL, March 26, 2024

Rob Macedo, KD1CY, writes on the SKYWARN_Announce list:   Amateur Radio will again be represented at the 2024 National Hurricane Conference which will be held this year in Orlando Florida (https://www.hurricanemeeting.com). This year, the workshop will be done both live at the conference and over a livestream so this will be a “hybrid workshop”.  The conference theme is to improve hurricane preparedness as it has been in past years. International Marconi Day, 2024

From ARRL News: 03/22/2024—This year, International Marconi Day (IMD) is on April 27. Italian inventor and electrical engineer Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi was born on April 25, 1874, and is credited for inventing the radiotelegraph system, creating Marconi’s law, and sending the first wireless transmission over the open sea. IMD was created to honor Marconi and is hosted annually by the Cornish Radio Amateur Club, GX4CRC. The purpose of the day is for amateur radio enthusiasts around the world to contact historic Marconi sites using communication techniques similar to those that he would have used.   The 24-hour event will operate …

First Region Net Time Change effective March 10

First Region Net Cycle 2 (SSB) is changing its meeting time due to the time change to Daylight Savings. Both early and late sessions will meet on 3950 Khz at 1445 and 1630 local time. This change is due to the change in the Eastern Area Net time which will continue to meet at 1930 UTC except on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1915 UTC (1530 and 1515 local respectively). The alternate frequency for First Region is 7240 Khz. Eastern Area meets on 7243 Khz daily.

Barnstable ARC To Begin Girl Scout Outreach Initiative

Our focus will be the ARRL Radio and Wireless Technology Patch Program and World Thinking Day on the Air  Both programs are naturals for introducing STEM topics, which are a focus for Girl Scouts. With 10 troops on the Cape, we need a lot of support for this program.  Anyone interested in this initiative would be a great asset. They discussed and approved the “Auxiliary Net” to take place every Sunday morning from 11:00 to 12:00 on the MMRA repeater network. The MMRA is a nonprofit Amateur Radio Club dedicated to Emergency.
