***TRAFFIC HANDLERS PICNIC AUGUST 3 2014***

Mark the date SUNDAY AUGUST 3 2014 FROM NOON TO 4 PM.  We will gather again at the Senior Center in Raynham MA on King Phillip Street.  This facility has grills, picnic tables and restroom facilities.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.  Bring your own drinks, but no alcohol please as this is not permitted on the grounds. Feel free to bring anything else to share although this is not required.  All traffic handlers and anyone interested in message handling are welcome.

Directions: From RT 24 North or South. Take exit 13 west towards Taunton RT 44.

Follow 44 1.5 miles to set of lights with Rite Aid Pharmacy on corner. Take right

on to RT 104 Raynham. Follow RT 104 ½ mile, take first left on to King Phillip St.

Follow King Phillip ¼ mile up to Raynham Senior Center on left. Pull right into

Parking lot. Picnic area on your left. Talk in will be on Bridgewater repeater

TRAFFIC REPORT FOR EAST AND WEST MASS JUNE 2014

Below is the June traffic report for the combined sections of East and West Mass. I regret to report that the Mass Rhode Island Phone Net has been de-activated for the time being due to lack of participation. If in the future there is sufficient interest in resuming a voice net on HF for Massachusetts and Rhode Island I would be happy to re-activate the net.  Anyone interested please get in touch with me (kw1u@arrl.net).

At this writing, one of our most active traffic handlers, Byron K1YCQ has been hospitalized and been in and out of intensive care for several weeks. Our thoughts and prayers are with Byron and his family for his recovery.  We hope to hear him back on the air as soon as he is able.

TRAFFIC REPORT FOR EAST AND WEST MASS APR 2014

Sorry for the late posting.  Vacations, while  relaxing, can be stressful trying to play catch-up.  Thanks to all for your support of the nets, to the net managers, net controls, and those who bring and take traffic. Thanks especially to Mark AC7RB, a relative newcomer to the nets, who has been originating traffic (and receiving responses in return).  I would like to encourage more folks to originate messages to be brought to the nets, messages to friends, families, ham radio contacts, members of an organization to which you belong, etc.  This is what will help keep nets alive and folks trained in message handling. How about originating one message per week, or at least one per month.  If all traffic handlers in the country did so think how much fun message handling could be.  73, Marcia KW1U

TRAFFIC REPORT FOR EAST AND WEST MASS MAR 2014

Thanks to all the traffic handlers for your support of the nets.  I was invited to attend the New Hampshire ARES Academy in March and was pleased to see the interest in message handling and in NTS and NTSD in particular.  It was pointed out that the primary function of Amateur Radio was the handling of messages. Handling record traffic with it’s accountability is an especially important skill.  Being able to run an efficient net is another important skill.  Both are practiced regularly by you folks who support the nets.  Keep up the good work, and encourage others to learn and practice these skills.

JANUARY, 2014 TRAFFIC REPORT

The January traffic report can be found by scrolling down this page.  Great job all.  We even have a report for the Cape and Islands (CITN) and New England Phone Net (NEPN).  Thanks Mike.  More folks are reporting Station Activity Reports (SAR) and PSHR (Public Service Honor Roll).  Anyone who handles traffic can send an SAR to your STM.  To be included in the PSHR report however you must earn a minimum of 70 points.  See the left side column on this page for information on SAR and PSHR.

We appreciate all your support on the nets.  A couple nets however can use some extra support.  The Mass Rhode Island Phone (MARIPN) meets on 3918 Khz at 5:30 PM Monday through Friday.  Some new callsigns are being seen there.  Keep up the good work.  Maybe we will be able to return to 7 days a week so that the working folks can make the 5:30 time slot.  Also Heavy Hitters (HHTN) has a few regulars but we would like to see more of you night owls checking into this net at 10:00PM on the MMRA linked repeaters (see mmra.org for details).

TRAFFIC REPORT FOR EAST AND WEST MASS NOV 2013

Here are the stats for November.  I’m happy to report that thanks to members of the Boston Amateur Radio Club the 145.23 repeater is back near coverage of pre-antenna damage days.  Many thanks to those guys who braved the heights and weather to raise the new antenna.  We are now able to move the EM2MN solely to the Boston repeater and it has made a noticeable difference in net participation.  It is good to see some of the old regulars returning.

I’m also happy to report that Bob Holland N1SYC has agreed to assume managership of EM2MN effective December 1 2013.  We thank John Campbell KB1ENV for his service to the net, and hope in time he will find some time to join us again.  We thank Bob, and I’m sure you will give him your support.

Packet traffic is moving again.  We had some problems with nodes making it difficult to pass traffic between KW1U and N1XTB-4, but many thanks to Jim W1JT who has made his node accessible for our use.  Anyone interested in NTSDigital can get in touch with me (KW1U) for information.

The CW net (MARI) has been doing well.  I’m considering increasing from 5 to 7 nights a week.  Hopefully this will allow some others to participate.  We have outlets on this net for Central and Western Mass as well as East Mass, so do come join us.  For information or help with CW let me know.

TRAFFIC HANDLERS PICNIC AUGUST 4

The annual Traffic Handlers Picnic for EMA will be held Sunday August 4, 2013, at the Raynham Senior Center picnic area in Raynham MA. The picnic will run from 12:00PM—to 4: PM. Your host Marcia KW1U will provide Hamburger and Hot Dogs. Bring your own drinks. No Alcohol is allowed because it is on Town Property.

There are two barbecues for those who want to cook their own food. There is
Toilet facilities available. A great chance to eyeball people you have been hearing
all year. A good time for all.

Directions: From RT 24 North or South. Take exit 13 west towards Taunton RT 44.
Follow 44 1.5 miles to set of lights with Rite Aid Pharmacy on corner. Take right
on to RT 104 Raynham. Follow RT 104 ½  mile, take first left on to King Phillip St.
Follow King Phillip ¼ mile up to Raynham Senior Center on left. Pull right into
Parking lot. Picnic area on your left.  Talk in will be on Bridgewater repeater
147.180 PL 67.
